Stromgald Cabal

Stromgald Cabal was originally introduced in the Alliances expansion set in 1996, before being reprinted with updated frame aesthetics in the Fifth Edition core set. The card depicts a secret society from the dark, snow-covered landscape of Ice Age-era Dominaria, reflecting the set's thematic focus on grim political intrigue and ancient cabals operating in the shadows of a decaying world.

The artwork was illustrated by Quinton Hoover, a prolific contributor to early Magic: The Gathering who was known for his distinct, expressive style. His design for the Cabal sought to capture the clandestine and sinister nature of the organization, utilizing the stark, high-contrast imagery that defined the visual language of the game's middle period. Upon its release, it became a recognizable staple for black-aligned decks that focused on disruptive mechanics.
