Where it came from
Sunimret was released in 2019 as part of the Mystery Booster Playtest Cards set, a series of experimental designs included in specific Convention Edition booster packs. These cards were created by Wizards of the Coast design teams as internal concepts or 'what-if' mechanics that were never intended for standard tournament-legal play. They are distinguished by their unique, plain-white borders and the 'playtest' stamp that acknowledges their status as unfinished or conceptual prototypes.
The design of Sunimret plays with the concept of reverse-text orientation and hidden information, reflecting the design team's goal to explore unorthodox gameplay mechanics that would typically be too complex for a regular set release. The card's aesthetic is deliberately austere, focusing entirely on the functionality of the text rather than polished illustration, which provides a glimpse into the iterative process of tabletop game development. It is widely considered a curiosity by collectors, valued primarily for its role as a rare artifact from an internal design project.
