Provenance

Where it came from

Sunrise Seeker was released in 2017 as part of the Ixalan expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set introduced a Mesoamerican-inspired plane characterized by exploration, piracy, and the discovery of lost civilizations. This card was designed as a common-rarity creature to support the draft environment, emphasizing the set's central mechanic of exploration by allowing players to reveal the top card of their library and place a +1/+1 counter on the creature if it is a land.

The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, who utilized a vibrant, sun-drenched palette to capture the adventurous spirit of the Ixalan setting. In the game's competitive meta, the card is recognized for its utility in navigating the deck and scaling in power during the early stages of a match, serving as a functional piece of the set's mechanical identity rather than a centerpiece of collector interest.
