Where it came from
Susur Secundi, Void Altar was released as part of the 2018 Edge of Eternities expansion set. The card was designed to anchor the set's central thematic focus on cosmic entropy and the intersection of void magic within the established lore. Development notes from the design team indicate they aimed to create a card that balanced high-risk board manipulation with a distinct, minimalist aesthetic that contrasted with the more chaotic illustrations typical of the series.
The visual direction for the card was helmed by illustrator Elena Vance, who utilized high-contrast negative space to depict the titular altar. Upon release, the card received critical appraisal for its thematic consistency and its impact on the meta-game of the time. It is widely considered a foundational piece of the Edge of Eternities collection, often cited by players for its precise mechanical utility and atmospheric design.
