Swamp // Swamp

The Brothers' War Art Series was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022 as a subset of the broader Brothers' War expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. These cards are distinct for their oversized format, which lack game-play text and instead showcase the expansive, intricate illustrations commissioned for the set, intended to provide fans with a high-fidelity look at the artistic direction of the game's ongoing narrative.

This specific Swamp card features artwork by Johannes Voss, a long-time contributor to the Magic: The Gathering aesthetic known for his luminous and painterly style. By stripping away the traditional card frame and mechanics, this series focuses on the atmospheric world-building of the Brother's War, a pivotal conflict in the game's lore centered on the mechanical and magical devastation caused by the two rival brothers, Urza and Mishra. The series was well-received by collectors who prioritize the visual art of the game over functional utility.
