Where it came from
Sylvan Library was originally printed in the Legends expansion in 1994, designed by Richard Garfield as a centerpiece of green enchantment utility. The card quickly became a staple in competitive Magic: The Gathering due to its powerful ability to manipulate the top of the library, effectively offering players a form of card selection that rewards knowledge of the deck's composition.
The Pro Tour Collector Set version, released in 1997, was a special commemorative product designed to highlight the cards that shaped the early competitive landscape of the game. These gold-bordered cards were produced as non-tournament-legal replicas, serving as both a memento for fans of the fledgling Pro Tour circuit and a way for players to own iconic cards that had become prohibitively expensive or rare on the secondary market.
