Plains

The Plains card from the Pro Tour Collector Set, numbered et365, was produced in 1997 as part of a curated collection intended to commemorate the top-performing decks from the Pro Tour circuit. These cards were marketed as non-tournament-legal replicas, featuring gold-bordered backs and signatures on the front to distinguish them from standard Magic: The Gathering cards. This specific set provided players with access to some of the most iconic deck lists of the early competitive era, allowing them to own versions of cards that were historically dominant in tournament play.

The design of these cards mirrors the original art found in the Mirage set, which was released in 1996 and served as the first expansion to be designed as a self-contained environment for the Limited format. The Plains card itself reflects the shift in aesthetic direction during that period, moving toward more expansive, painterly landscapes. While intended to celebrate the skill of the professional players whose decks were featured, the set as a whole was received by the community as a bridge between high-level competitive play and the accessibility of casual collectible formats.
