Syphon Mind

Syphon Mind was first introduced as a staple of the Magic: The Gathering Commander format, specifically appearing in the Commander 2014 preconstructed decks. Designed to be a multiplayer powerhouse, the card captures the essence of the black mana philosophy by forcing each opponent to discard a card while simultaneously granting the caster card advantage based on those discards. It emerged during a period where Wizards of the Coast was actively expanding support for the Commander format, tailoring card effects specifically for games involving three or more players.

The artwork for this particular printing was commissioned from Jeff Easley, a legendary illustrator whose contributions to the Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering franchises date back decades. Easley’s signature dark, painterly style effectively conveys the card's theme of psychic drain and psychological attrition.
