Where it came from
Sythis, Harvest's Hand was released in 2021 as part of Modern Horizons 2, a set designed to introduce cards directly into the Modern format of Magic: The Gathering. The card was created to provide a dedicated commander for enchantment-themed decks, offering a payoff that rewards players for casting enchantments by granting card draw and incidental life gain. Its design intentionally echoes the 'enchantress' archetype that has been a staple of the game for decades, providing a more modern, streamlined iteration of legacy cards like Argothian Enchantress.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who rendered Sythis as a feline-like leonin figure surrounded by lush, verdant flora to reflect her role as a harvest-focused deity. The aesthetic aims to capture the serene yet powerful nature of an enchantment-based engine. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the Commander community for its efficiency and specific focus, quickly becoming a popular choice for players looking to pilot high-synergy decks centered on protective and utility enchantments.
