Where it came from
Tangle, a Marvel supervillain created by writer Len Wein and artist George Pérez, made his first appearance in the 1978 Daredevil issue #152. As a member of the Maggia crime syndicate and a formidable adversary to heroes like Spider-Man and Daredevil, his inclusion in the 1990 Marvel Universe Series 1 trading card set was intended to flesh out the expansive gallery of Marvel’s secondary antagonists and street-level threats.
The 1990 Marvel Universe trading card series, produced by Impel Marketing, remains a landmark release in the collectibles hobby. Designed to provide a comprehensive visual guide to the Marvel pantheon, the set utilized vibrant, comic-panel-inspired artwork to capture character histories. The Tangle card, number 38, is a classic representative of the set’s focus on cataloging the depth of the Marvel roster, offering collectors a snapshot of a character defined by his distinctive armored suit and criminal ties.
