Tasha's Hideous Laughter

Tasha's Hideous Laughter was originally introduced as a core spell in the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing game before being adapted as a card for Magic: The Gathering. This specific version appeared in the 2021 Adventures in the Forgotten Realms expansion, a set designed to bridge the two franchises by bringing classic D&D spells, monsters, and characters into the Magic card ecosystem.

The art for this card, illustrated by Wisnu Tan, captures the chaotic and whimsical nature of the spell as described in D&D lore. The design team focused on translating the spell's mechanical effect—forcing an opponent to mill cards until they hit a nonland card—into a blue-aligned disruption tool. The card was well-received by players for its thematic accuracy and its effectiveness in competitive formats like Commander, where milling strategies often see significant play.
