Where it came from
Teferi, Who Slows the Sunset was released in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. The character of Teferi is one of the most prominent Planeswalkers in the game's lore, a master of time magic seeking to restore balance to the Multiverse. This specific card represents a moment of high tension within the narrative arc of the Innistrad setting, where the plane is trapped in a perpetual state of twilight due to supernatural forces.
The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, a long-time contributor to the Magic: The Gathering franchise. Voss sought to capture the contemplative yet powerful nature of the character, utilizing a color palette that reflects the muted, autumnal aesthetic of the Midnight Hunt expansion. The design was received by players as a flexible utility card, valued for its ability to manipulate various permanent types on the battlefield, which cemented its place in both competitive and casual card collections.
