What it does
Whenever a creature you control attacks, it phases out at end of combat. (While it's phased out, it's treated as though it doesn't exist. It phases in before you untap during your next untap step.)
"I don't like to speak ill of 'walkers . . . but just what did Teferi think he was doing?"— Ertai, wizard adept

Where it came from
Teferi's Veil was released in the 1997 Magic: The Gathering expansion set Weatherlight, a pivotal release in the game's early history that concluded the Mirage block's narrative arc. The card was designed to represent the phasing ability, a complex mechanic introduced during this era to allow cards to temporarily blink out of existence, protecting them from board states and interactive spells.
The card's illustration was created by artist Heather Hudson, who provided a distinct, ethereal aesthetic that fit the high-fantasy tone of the Weatherlight Saga. While the mechanics of phasing were famously controversial and difficult for players to parse at the time, the card has since garnered a retrospective appreciation from niche fans of blue control strategies and niche interaction-heavy deck builds.
