Where it came from
Tempest Technique is a card released as part of the Commander 2021 set, specifically within the Prismari Performance deck. It was designed to support the set's focus on the Prismari college of Strixhaven, which emphasizes the intersection of artistry and elemental magic. The card draws inspiration from the thematic elements of the plane of Tarkir, integrating the explosive, high-impact nature of dragon-related magic into a sorcery that rewards players for aggressive, spell-heavy strategies.
The visual design of the card captures the kinetic energy characteristic of the Prismari aesthetic, utilizing bold colors and sweeping lines to evoke the feeling of a sudden, powerful elemental discharge. As a functional piece of cardboard, it was developed by the Wizards of the Coast design team to provide a significant board-state swing in multiplayer formats, reflecting the high-variance, interactive gameplay style that the Commander format is known for.
