Where it came from
Will of the Abzan was released as part of the Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander product line, a supplementary set designed to highlight the unique color identities and tactical philosophies of the clans from the Tarkir block. Within the game's lore, the Abzan Houses represent the resilient, survivalist nature of the humans dwelling in the harsh desert dunes, emphasizing cooperation and the veneration of ancestors to endure hostile environments.
The card was designed to mechanically embody the Abzan signature keyword, Outlast, and their synergy with +1/+1 counters. The artwork reflects the clan's distinctive visual identity, characterized by heavy ivory armor, intricate scale-mail, and the arid, golden-hued landscapes of their territory. It was received as a staple utility piece for players looking to bolster defensive board states in multiplayer commander formats.
