What it does
When this creature enters, manifest the top card of your library. (Put that card onto the battlefield face down as a 2/2 creature. Turn it face up any time for its mana cost if it's a creature card.)
Whenever a permanent you control is turned face up, if it's a creature, you may have it fight target creature you don't control.

Where it came from
The Temur War Shaman was released as part of the Duskmourn: House of Horror Commander set in 2024. The set draws heavy inspiration from 1980s and 1990s horror tropes, transposing these aesthetic sensibilities into the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. As a creature card, it aligns with the set's broader mechanical focus on manifesting and creature-based synergy, reflecting the survivalist themes central to the Duskmourn narrative.
The artistic direction for this piece emphasizes the visceral, atmospheric gloom characteristic of the House of Horror setting. Illustrators tasked with the Duskmourn aesthetic were challenged to blend high-fantasy elements with contemporary slasher and supernatural horror motifs. The card serves as an example of the design philosophy used to bridge the gap between traditional tribal mechanics and the set's distinctive, modern-retro stylistic identity.
