Where it came from
Tenuous Truce was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set, a collection themed around the organized crime syndicates of a glamorous, art-deco inspired metropolis. Mechanically designed to fit the multiplayer commander format, the card serves as a political tool, allowing players to negotiate resources while maintaining the set’s established tone of precarious alliances and shifting loyalties within a dangerous urban underworld.
The card features artwork by artist Magali Villeneuve, who is well known for her elegant and high-fantasy aesthetic within the Magic: The Gathering card game. Villeneuve’s illustration captures the atmospheric tension of the New Capenna setting, depicting a deliberate and guarded interaction that visually represents the card's function of incentivizing a temporary, fragile peace between opponents for mutual strategic benefit.
