Terrain Elemental

Terrain Elemental was introduced in the 2016 Kaladesh set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Set on the plane of Kaladesh, a world defined by its bright aesthetic and focus on magical technology known as Aether, the card reflects the environment's unique relationship with elemental forces. It was designed as a common-rarity creature to provide players with a basic yet functional tool for manipulating land-based resources within the game's evolving mechanics.

The artwork for this piece was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, who was tasked with visualizing a creature composed of the very earth and machinery characteristic of the plane. His design emphasizes the fusion of natural terrain with the set's signature inventions, opting for a rugged, textured appearance that contrasted with the more polished, mechanical constructs elsewhere in the set. Upon its release, it was regarded by the community as a thematic representation of the plane's untamed nature, serving its purpose as a functional utility card within limited and draft play environments.
