Where it came from
The Chase Is On is an instant spell released in the 2024 Magic: The Gathering set Murders at Karlov Manor. The set is themed around a top-down murder mystery aesthetic set in the urban, Ravnica-inspired world of Karlov Manor. Mechanically, the card was designed to support the set's investigation and detective motifs, allowing players to search their library for creatures to represent the act of tracking down suspects within the game narrative.
The card features artwork by illustrator Campbell White, who leaned into the noir, investigative tone central to the expansion. The visual design emphasizes a high-stakes, cinematic chase sequence that aligns with the game's shift toward sleuth-driven mechanics. Upon release, the card was received as a functional utility piece for green-aligned decks that utilize creature-heavy strategies, fitting into the broader environmental storytelling of the detective-themed set.
