Where it came from
The Circle of Loyalty was released in 2019 as part of the Throne of Eldraine set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed as a white legendary artifact card, it serves as a thematic cornerstone for the set’s high-fantasy Arthurian inspiration. The design reflects the 'knight tribal' mechanics prominent in the expansion, intending to reward players who commit to a board presence of creature cards while providing utility through token generation and cost reduction.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Johannes Voss, who utilized the game’s signature aesthetic to depict a regal, enchanted table symbolizing the unity of Eldraine’s knights. The reception of the card was largely centered on its role as a powerful engine for white-aligned decks, praised by competitive players for its synergy with low-cost creatures and its ability to provide a durable anthem effect that persists even as the board state shifts during complex matches.
