Where it came from
The Circle of Loyalty was released in 2019 as part of the Throne of Eldraine expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a legendary artifact belonging to the mythic rare tier, it was designed to embody the Arthurian-inspired lore of the set, representing a powerful emblem of unity and martial strength within the kingdom of Eldraine. The card serves as a mechanical centerpiece for go-wide strategies, reflecting the set's thematic focus on knights, castles, and fairy-tale archetypes.
The illustration was crafted by artist Jason A. Engle, who utilized a regal, high-fantasy aesthetic to capture the imposing nature of the artifact. The promo version, designated with the collector number 9p, features unique alternative art and a foil treatment intended to distinguish it as a collectible variant. Upon release, the design was noted for its intricate detail and its role in reinforcing the set's cohesive visual identity, which drew heavily from chivalric romance and folklore traditions.
