Where it came from
The Circle of Loyalty was originally printed as a mythic rare card in the 2019 expansion Throne of Eldraine, a set heavily inspired by Arthurian legend and classic fairy tales. It was included in the 2022 Jumpstart set as a reprint, maintaining its role as a powerful anthem effect specifically designed to support creature-heavy white decks. The card reflects the set’s focus on the Knight creature type and the 'legendary' mechanic, offering a permanent buff to creatures and a cost-reduction ability that rewards players for deploying their commanders or other legendary figures.
The art was illustrated by Johannes Voss, a long-time contributor to the Magic: The Gathering franchise known for his ethereal and high-fantasy aesthetic. Voss designed the illustration to evoke the regal, communal nature of a round table, utilizing golden hues and circular composition to emphasize the card’s mechanical theme of loyalty and unity among a knightly host. Upon its release, the card was widely recognized by players for its synergy within aggressive white strategies and its thematic cohesion with the high-fantasy narrative of Eldraine.
