Provenance

Where it came from

The Deck of Many Things, specifically collector number 241p from the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Promos set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021. This promotional card was designed to integrate the iconic high-chaos artifact from Dungeons & Dragons lore into the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set as a whole was a landmark collaboration, marking the first time the Magic: The Gathering card system was fully utilized to explore the setting of the Forgotten Realms.

The illustration for this card was created by artist Olga Drebas, who aimed to capture the mystique and inherent unpredictability of the magical item. In the Dungeons & Dragons source material, the deck is renowned for its ability to drastically alter a campaign's trajectory through random magical effects, and the card design mirrors this by requiring the player to reveal cards from the top of their library. It was well-received by players for its thematic accuracy and its ability to replicate the chaotic thrill of a tabletop roll on the game board.
