Thran Spider // Thran Spider

The Thran Spider is part of the Art Series released alongside the 2022 Magic: The Gathering expansion, The Brothers' War. These cards were designed as collector's items rather than playable game pieces, featuring high-quality, full-bleed artwork from the set's cards on the front, while the reverse side displays the artist's signature and the set logo. This specific piece pays homage to the lore of the Thran Empire, an ancient, technologically advanced civilization within the game's multiverse that predates the catastrophic conflict between Urza and Mishra.

The artwork featured on this card is by the illustrator Campbell White, who was commissioned to capture the cold, mechanical aesthetic of Thran constructs. The design intent was to reflect the juxtaposition between natural insectoid forms and the intricate, brass-and-gear aesthetic synonymous with the Thran technological style. Upon release, the Art Series was well-received by fans and collectors who appreciated the opportunity to view the set's digital illustrations in a physical format without the distraction of game text or border frames.
