Where it came from
Throat Slitter was originally released as part of the Planechase 2012 supplemental set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. As a card belonging to the Ninjutsu mechanic, it was designed to function within the aggressive, tempo-focused playstyle associated with the Ninjas of the Kamigawa plane, offering a way for players to remove small-stature creatures from the battlefield upon entering play.
The card features artwork by Christopher Moeller, who captured the stealthy and lethal aesthetic of the Ninja character type. Within the context of Planechase 2012, the card served as a functional reprint that provided accessibility to players looking to build around the Ninja creature type, and it has been noted by the community for its efficient design in limited formats and casual multiplayer environments.
