Where it came from
The Tiger Shark, Abyssal Hunter card is a component of the Marvel Super Heroes Commander set, a card game series that emerged during the late 1990s as part of the broader effort to adapt popular comic book intellectual properties into strategic tabletop experiences. This set was designed to leverage the deep roster of Marvel characters, translating the high-stakes narrative arcs of the comics into a system of combat-focused abilities and thematic power-ups suitable for casual play.
The design of the card emphasizes the character's underwater predatory nature, drawing on classic Marvel visual tropes from the era's editorial style. The illustration aims to capture Tiger Shark’s aggressive posture and distinct aquatic physiology, consistent with his status as a recurring antagonist in the Namor and Avengers mythos. Upon release, the set was received as a standard entry in the licensed collectible card market, valued primarily by enthusiasts of the source material and those seeking to complete the set's comprehensive character catalog.
