Provenance

Where it came from

Tinker was originally printed in the Urza's Destiny set in 1999, designed as a powerful artifact-tutoring sorcery that quickly became a centerpiece of high-level competitive play. Its mechanics, which allow a player to sacrifice an artifact to search for and deploy a much more powerful one, pushed the boundaries of efficiency and led to its eventual restriction or banning in various formats.

This specific version, released in the 2009 From the Vault: Exiled collection, features artwork by Chris Rahn. Rahn’s interpretation leaned into the theme of arcane engineering, utilizing a painterly aesthetic to depict the card’s namesake ability. This collection was curated by Wizards of the Coast to feature historically significant cards that had been previously banned or restricted, serving as both a functional tool for tournament players and a retrospective for established enthusiasts.
