Tormented Soul

Tormented Soul was originally printed in the Magic: The Gathering expansion Stronghold in 1998, with this specific promo version released through the DCI (Duelists' Convocation International) program. These promotional cards were typically distributed to players as participation rewards at sanctioned tournaments or through organized play events during the late 1990s and early 2000s, serving as an incentive to bolster local gaming communities.

The artwork for this version retains the original illustration by Daren Bader. Bader’s design leans into the gothic, surreal aesthetic characteristic of the era's horror-fantasy influences, depicting the entity as a bound, ethereal figure. The card is mechanically notable for its 'cannot block' restriction paired with 'cannot be blocked,' a design choice intended to function as an aggressive, unanswerable threat in black-aligned deck archetypes.
