Provenance

Where it came from

Curse of Wizardry was originally released as a DCI promotional card in 2008, serving as a reward for players participating in Magic: The Gathering tournaments sanctioned by the Duelists' Convocation International. The card itself is a reprint of the rare enchantment from the Morningtide expansion, which explored the tribal themes of the Lorwyn block by focusing on class-based synergies.

The artwork for this specific promotional version was illustrated by Christopher Rush, one of the most iconic artists in the early history of the game. His design sought to capture the ominous, punishing nature of the card's ability, which forces an opponent to lose life whenever they cast a noncreature spell. While the card is a mechanical niche piece, it remains a notable example of the transition toward alternate-art incentives during the DCI promotional era.
