Where it came from
Reckless Wurm was released as a DCI promotional card in 2006, distributed to participants of Magic: The Gathering tournaments sanctioned by the Duelists' Convocation International. The card features the 'madness' mechanic, which allowed players to cast it at a reduced cost if it was discarded, fitting the high-impact, aggressive playstyle associated with the Time Spiral block in which the card originally debuted.
The promotional version features distinct, updated artwork by Kev Walker, a prolific illustrator known for his dynamic and gritty style within the Magic: The Gathering universe. By commissioning new art for the DCI promo circuit, Wizards of the Coast sought to reward active tournament players with visually unique versions of cards that were already competitively relevant, reinforcing the prestige of local gaming communities.
