Where it came from
Training Center was originally printed as a rare land in the 2000 set Invasion. As part of a cycle of allied-colored lands that enter the battlefield tapped unless a player controls a basic land of either color, it was designed to provide efficient mana fixing for mid-range and control decks of the era. The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, an iconic illustrator whose contributions defined the aesthetic identity of early Magic: The Gathering.
The card was included in 'The List', a curated selection of reprints integrated into Set Boosters starting with Zendikar Rising. By reintroducing older, functionally significant cards like Training Center into modern distribution, the developers aimed to increase the availability of staples for Commander players. The card is widely regarded as a practical utility piece, appreciated for its reliability in multi-colored strategies rather than for overt visual flair.
