Where it came from
Trazyn the Infinite was released in 2022 as part of the Warhammer 40,000 Commander set, a collaborative expansion between Wizards of the Coast and Games Workshop. The card was specifically featured in the Necron Dynasties deck, designed to translate the complex lore and mechanical flavor of the Necron faction from the tabletop wargame into the Magic: The Gathering ruleset. Trazyn was chosen as a focal point for the deck due to his unique role in the Warhammer 40,000 universe as a curator of history who manipulates artifacts and individuals for his own collection.
The card features artwork commissioned to capture Trazyn's imposing, skeletal aesthetic, rendered in the high-fantasy industrial style consistent with the Necron aesthetic. The design reflects his narrative ability to tap into the memories and powers of his captured specimens, allowing players to utilize activated abilities from artifact cards in their graveyard. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its synergy-heavy mechanics and its faithful representation of a character defined by hoarding, intrigue, and ancient power.
