Treasure Mage

Treasure Mage was released in 2011 as part of the Mirrodin Besieged expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Set on the artificial world of Mirrodin, the card reflects the lore of a plane consumed by the corrupting influence of Phyrexian oil, where the remaining inhabitants desperately salvage artifacts to survive. The card was designed to function as a tutor, specifically allowing players to search their library for high-cost artifacts, cementing its utility in blue-based control and combo archetypes.

The artwork was illustrated by Igor Kieryluk, who depicted the mage as a weathered, inquisitive figure surrounded by salvaged mechanical parts, capturing the scavenging theme prevalent in the set. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its efficient design, becoming a staple in Commander and various Constructed formats where players look to cheat powerful artifacts into play. Its design remains a quintessential example of how the game's developers balanced flavor with mechanical function during the Scars of Mirrodin block.
