Where it came from
Trostani Discordant was originally introduced as a mythic rare card in the 2018 Ravnica Allegiance expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Representing the Selesnya Conclave, the card was designed to embody the guild's core philosophy of unity and collective strength through its ability to return creatures to their owners' control and provide a uniform power boost to the board. The card features artwork by Chase Stone, who rendered the three-headed dryad avatar with a sense of architectural and organic balance that characterizes the aesthetic of Ravnica's nature-aligned guild.
The specific iteration noted as collector number 253 appeared within the 2022 Starter Commander Decks product line. This release was intended to provide accessible, ready-to-play options for players interested in the Commander format, utilizing reprints of established cards to stabilize deck power levels. By including Trostani Discordant in this format, Wizards of the Coast allowed the card to reach a wider audience of casual players, cementing its status as a staple for green-white token-focused strategies.
