Where it came from
Tyvar Kell was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion set, Kaldheim, which drew heavy inspiration from Norse mythology and the harsh, icy aesthetics of Viking culture. This specific card, collector number 198p, is a promotional version of the planeswalker card, released to coincide with the set's launch as part of the specialized Kaldheim Promos collection.
The character was designed as a charismatic, heroic elf planeswalker from the plane of Kaldheim, serving as a narrative anchor for the set's exploration of tribal themes and warrior legends. The illustration, crafted by artist Johannes Voss, captures Tyvar’s athletic and confident demeanor, aiming to portray the strength and communal pride inherent to his character’s background as a champion of his people.
