Where it came from
Battle for Bretagard was released as part of the Kaldheim set for Magic: The Gathering in early 2021. The card is a saga, a mechanic designed to represent epic stories from Norse mythology and the specific lore of the plane of Kaldheim. This promotional version, numbered 203p, features unique extended-art framing that distinguishes it from the standard version found in booster packs, aiming to highlight the dramatic, painterly aesthetic characteristic of the set's Viking-inspired visuals.
The card was designed to capture the flavor of a large-scale conflict within the Bretagard realm, specifically focusing on the unification of the local clans against external threats. As a promotional item, it was primarily distributed through specialized channels like store events or bundle inclusions, becoming a sought-after piece for players who appreciate the thematic cohesion of the Kaldheim block. Its reception was marked by interest from both competitive players utilizing its token-generating abilities and collectors drawn to its distinct, high-fantasy illustration style.
