Umara Wizard // Umara Wizard

The Umara Wizard card is part of the Zendikar Rising Art Series, a specialized promotional set released by Wizards of the Coast in 2020. This series was designed to showcase the intricate, full-art illustrations from the main Zendikar Rising expansion, stripping away the card frames and mechanical text to elevate the aesthetic quality of the original artwork. The set was distributed primarily through Art Series booster packs, which were curated to highlight the atmospheric, adventure-focused tone of the plane of Zendikar.

The artwork for this specific card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, a long-standing contributor to the Magic: The Gathering franchise. Voss is known for his ethereal lighting and focus on movement, and his depiction of the Umara Wizard leans into the high-fantasy aesthetic of the setting, emphasizing the character's mastery over the shifting landscapes of the region. The release was well-received by collectors who sought a more immersive viewing experience of the game's world-building, as these cards were intended for display rather than competitive play.
