Morphic Pool // Morphic Pool

Morphic Pool was originally introduced in the Battlebond set in 2018 as part of a cycle of land cards designed to support the set's unique two-headed giant multiplayer format. This specific version, numbered 32 in the Zendikar Rising Art Series, was released in 2020 as a collectible art card included in booster packs. These cards were designed to highlight the high-fantasy aesthetics of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse by featuring an enlarged, borderless version of the original illustration without the game text overlays.

The artwork for this piece was created by artist Titus Lunter, who intended to capture a surreal and ethereal atmosphere reflecting the magical geography of the game's setting. By removing the mechanical card elements, the Art Series allows the player to appreciate the painterly brushwork and the vibrant, swirling color palette used to denote the land's utility in providing multiple colors of mana. Upon its release, the series was well-received by collectors who valued the aesthetic focus, marking a transition in how the game marketed its visual identity to its growing community of hobbyists.
