What it does
Underdark Beholder enters the battlefield with ten eyestalk counters on it.
If Underdark Beholder would be dealt damage, remove that many eyestalk counters from it instead. If you can't, sacrifice it.
Whenever Underdark Beholder attacks, reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal an instant, sorcery, or enchantment card with converted mana cost less than the number of eyestalk counters on Underdark Beholder. You may cast it without paying its mana cost. Shuffle your library.

Where it came from
The Underdark Beholder was released as part of the Mystery Booster 2021 Playtest Cards, a unique set distributed at various Magic: The Gathering conventions. These cards were designed by Wizards of the Coast as a meta-commentary on the game's design process, often featuring experimental mechanics, joke text, or 'playtest' stickers that mimicked the internal aesthetic of prototype development. They were never intended for sanctioned tournament play and instead served as a whimsical exploration of the creative boundaries within the Magic ecosystem.
The design of this specific card leans into the flavor of the Dungeons & Dragons Underdark setting, utilizing the visual motifs associated with Wizards of the Coast's intellectual properties. Like other entries in the Mystery Booster playtest series, it reflects a loose, prototype-style layout, featuring a stark, utilitarian aesthetic that contrasts with the polished, final-product artwork typical of standard expansions. It was received by the player community as a highly collectible oddity, prized more for its scarcity and status as a developmental artifact than for its competitive utility.
