Where it came from
Unfinished Business was released in 2023 as part of the Wilds of Eldraine Commander set, a collection themed around the high-fantasy, fairy-tale inspired plane of Eldraine. The card was designed as a white sorcery card, reflecting the color's thematic focus on resurrection and battlefield recovery within the Magic: The Gathering mechanical landscape. Its inclusion in the set provided players with a recurring tool to return creatures from the graveyard to the battlefield, reinforcing the set's emphasis on enchantment and graveyard synergies.
The artwork for Unfinished Business was created by illustrator Justine Cruz, who sought to capture the ethereal and haunting nature of a soul being tethered back to the material realm. The visual composition employs the soft, storybook aesthetic characteristic of the Eldraine expansion while maintaining a sense of somber urgency. Upon release, the card was received by the community as a solid utility piece for commander decks, appreciated primarily for its ability to function as both a reanimation spell and an enchantment for future mechanical payoffs.
