Unholy Strength

Unholy Strength first appeared in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, representing the game's foundational black-aligned Enchant Aura cards. Designed as a cost-efficient way to bolster a creature's power and toughness at the expense of thematic darker energy, it became an iconic example of the aggressive, high-risk playstyle defining early black decks. The artwork by Dan Frazier captures the grim, visceral aesthetic that defined the game's initial visual identity.

The 30th Anniversary Edition was released in 2022 to commemorate three decades of the game. It features a modern frame design but maintains the original artwork to evoke nostalgia for the early 1990s era. While these cards are non-tournament legal, they are prized by collectors for their updated printing technology and their role in documenting the visual evolution of the game from its inception to its modern status as a global phenomenon.
