Where it came from
Urza's Sylex was introduced in the 2022 Magic: The Gathering set The Brothers' War, which explores the foundational conflict between brothers Urza and Mishra. This specific card represents the devastating artifact used by Urza to end the war, an event that reshaped the multiverse’s history. The promo version, marked as collector number 40p, features unique frame treatments common to the set’s promotional releases, emphasizing the artifact's destructive lore and significance within the game's expansive narrative.
The art for this piece was commissioned to reflect the immense scale and catastrophic nature of the Sylex blast. Artists tasked with visualizing this iconic artifact often emphasize its ancient, volatile aesthetic, grounding it in the steampunk-inspired technological landscape of the Brothers' War era. Upon its release, the card was received as both a powerful mechanical tool for players and a centerpiece for fans interested in the deep lore of Magic's most historic conflict.
