Where it came from
Vanishing Verse was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This specific version, identified by collector number 244s, is a promotional variant featuring alternate artwork that highlights the aesthetic of the Orzhov college, a faction known for its complex blend of gothic architecture and necromantic bureaucracy.
The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, whose work frequently captures a sense of ethereal elegance. The design intent behind this specific promo was to emphasize the 'Mage Tower' or 'Mystical Archive' visual language introduced in the set, prioritizing a clean, art-focused frame that distinguishes it from standard set printings. It was well-received by players for its minimalist approach and the way it visually represents the card's effect of exiling multicolored permanents.
