Vannifar, Evolved Enigma // Vannifar, Evolved Enigma

Vannifar, Evolved Enigma was released in early 2024 as part of the Murders at Karlov Manor Art Series, a subset of Magic: The Gathering cards dedicated to showcasing the expanded illustrations used for the set's flagship cards. These cards are distributed exclusively in collector boosters, serving as collectible showcases for the digital and traditional artistry commissioned by Wizards of the Coast. The Art Series cards feature the artwork on the front with a clean, frame-free aesthetic, while the reverse side includes the artist's signature and the set logo.

The illustration for this specific card was created by artist Jesper Ejsing, a longtime contributor to the game known for his expressive fantasy style. In this iteration, Vannifar is depicted as a Simic biomancer reflecting the shadowy, investigative tone of the Ravnica-based expansion. The design intent was to emphasize the character's evolution within the game's narrative, providing a stark, visually focused representation that strips away the gameplay text to highlight the intricate detail and atmospheric color palette of the Ravnican setting.
