Where it came from
Vannifar, Evolved Enigma was released in 2024 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion Murders at Karlov Manor. This card features a reimagined version of the character Prime Speaker Vannifar, now serving as a central figure in the set's mystery-themed narrative. The design reflects the character's Simic Combine heritage while integrating the set's unique mechanics, such as the face-down casting associated with the Disguise keyword.
The promo version, numbered 241p, features distinct alternate art that highlights the character’s bio-mechanical fusion. The visual direction aimed to emphasize the eerie, forensic nature of the investigation taking place on Ravnica. Upon release, the card was received as a versatile tool for Commander and Limited formats, recognized for its ability to manipulate board states through its mana-cheating and manifest capabilities.
