Where it came from
Vanquisher's Banner was released as part of the Ixalan set of Magic: The Gathering in 2017. Designed as an artifact for tribal-themed decks, the card was intended to provide a powerful anthem effect that rewards players for committing to a single creature type. The promotional version, marked with the collector number 251s, features alternate art exclusive to its distribution through Wizards of the Coast organized play events.
The illustration for this iteration was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, whose work often emphasizes high-fantasy aesthetics and rich, atmospheric lighting. The design reflects the broader Ixalan theme of exploration and conquest, portraying a standard that invokes a sense of rallying morale. The card was well-received by the community upon release, particularly among Commander players who value cards that offer both passive stat bonuses and recurring card draw utility.
