Where it came from
The Vanquisher's Banner was released as part of the Ixalan set for Magic: The Gathering in 2017. Designed as an uncommon tribal artifact, the card was crafted to support the set's central theme of creature-type synergy, reflecting the exploration and conquest motifs of the Ixalan plane. It was intended to reward players for building decks around specific creature types, providing both a statistical boost and card draw mechanics that solidified its utility in both Commander and casual formats.
The promotional version, designated as 251p, was distributed through Wizards of the Coast's organized play programs, typically provided as a participation or prize card at local game stores. The artwork, illustrated by Greg Staples, captures the rugged, adventurous aesthetic of the Ixalan setting with detailed, thematic imagery. The card was well-received by the community for its versatile design, remaining a staple inclusion in tribal-focused deck lists long after its initial promotional release.
