Where it came from
Vectis Agents was released in 2009 as part of the Conflux expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, this set followed the Shards of Alara block and focused on the intricate mechanics of Esper, a plane characterized by its unique blend of magical artifact creatures and refined, metallic aesthetics.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Chippy, a long-time contributor to the game known for his surreal and often unsettling character designs. In this piece, he aimed to capture the essence of the Esper faction's artificers, depicting them as sleek, biomechanical entities that reflect the set's central theme of life merged with etherium, an artificial substance central to the world's lore.
