Where it came from
Veil of Birds was released in 1998 as part of the Urza’s Saga expansion, a pivotal set in the Magic: The Gathering canon that introduced the enchantment-heavy themes and complex mechanics associated with the artificer Urza. This card belongs to the blue color identity, reflecting the set's broader focus on powerful utility and board manipulation during a period of significant design experimentation for Wizards of the Coast.
The card features artwork by Margaret Organ-Kean, who contributed several pieces to the set with a distinctive, painterly aesthetic. The design reflects the whimsical yet tactical nature of the game’s late-nineties era, depicting a shimmering defensive barrier. While the card is a common rarity and often overlooked in competitive formats, it remains a nostalgic touchstone for players who collected during the high-fantasy narrative peaks of the Urza block.
