Where it came from
The Vendilion Clique was originally released as a rare card in the 2008 Magic: The Gathering set Morningtide. As a centerpiece of the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor block, the card depicts a trio of faerie siblings central to the folklore of the plane. This specific version was issued in 2011 as part of the Judge Gift Cards program, an initiative designed to reward high-level tournament judges for their volunteer contributions to the game's organized play infrastructure.
The artwork for this promotional release was illustrated by Christopher Moeller, who provided a distinct, polished aesthetic that departed from the original card's art. Moeller was commissioned to create a cohesive, alternate-art version that would appeal specifically to collectors and veteran players. The card was received favorably within the community, prized both for its utility in competitive formats like Modern and Legacy and for its status as a foil-only promotional item that remains a hallmark of the Judge Gift series.
